About

According to my family, I started playing with sentences and words as soon as I learned how to read. I’ve been writing since elementary school — journals, poems, stories, essays, you name it. I write for myself, and it’s often not so much that I want to but that I have to. When others enjoy reading what I write, it’s just icing on the cake.

I wrote Voyager fan fiction (mostly J/C) from 1999 to 2002, but after the series ended I lost interest in writing fan fiction, although I continued to read it. After a while I figured that I probably was not going to write fan fiction any longer, and began to view it as a pleasant thing I’d done for a while before moving on.

I was wrong.

I started writing fan fiction again in late 2007/early 2008. At first, it was Firefly, which I still enjoy and don’t intend to stop writing. But then, almost by accident, I rediscovered Earth 2, which I’d seen and absolutely loved during its initial run. My imagination was captured again.

Since then I’ve been writing semi-consistently; I go through phases, but I’ve never quite stopped and I don’t intend to do so. I’ve never believed in “they lived happily ever after,” and I don’t believe that people are inherently bad or good. In other words, there’s more to every story — and there are no “good guys” and “bad guys” — and I’m the kind of person who likes to find it.

If you’re looking for gratuitous self-insertion, slash, unnecessarily explicit, “real person” fiction, or so-called “OOC” stories, you won’t find those here. You might find a bit of an alternate universe now and then, and some fade-to-black scenes, but my hope is that you’ll find good, believable and realistic work that tells the rest of our beloved characters’ stories.

You’ll have to be the judge as to whether I’ve succeeded.

In real life, I’m a thirtysomething, crazy cat woman in training. I’m currently in metro Atlanta, but I’m originally from eastern North Carolina. Yes, I have an accent. No, I’m not a redneck, but I will firmly correct anyone who even suggests that barbecue could be red. I work in a cubicle during the day.

When I’m not working, writing or playing on the Internet, I enjoy many different activities such as reading, volunteer work, travel, hiking, cross-stitch, photography and music. So I stay busy.

The name of this site comes from the time between my two fan fiction phases. I was still writing; it just wasn’t fan fiction. I was living in a second-floor apartment that didn’t have a washer or dryer. The complex’ laundry room was in the basement of the next building over, so in order to do my laundry I had to carry it down two flights of stairs and from one building to another.

Needless to say, I had an incentive to stay in the laundry room until my clothes were clean and dry — especially when it was cold or rainy. To pass the time, I started taking my laptop with me. Unfortunately, since I was in a basement in a different building, I couldn’t access my Internet connection while I was doing my laundry.

So I wrote. Around the second time I did it, I realized something. I got an incredible amount of writing done in that laundry room. In the end, I came to look forward to doing my laundry because I knew that I’d have a chance to get so much writing done.

I’ve since moved on from that apartment and, in fact, from that city. I learned the lesson, though, and to this day I prefer to seek out locations without Internet access when I want to settle into a writing session. I’ve found several, and I use them. But I haven’t yet found one that was quite as good as that laundry room.
